The fifth annual Audi Polo Awards, the ‘Oscars of Polo’ were run again in glittering fashion at the Hilton Park Lane, on Monday 17th May 2010.

An evening that allows the most outstanding individuals, teams, patrons and ponies to be acknowledged formally in front of their peers was conducted in front of some 370 guests.

The evening celebrated all that is great and good in polo with the guest list reading like the 'Who's Who' of world polo. It was acknowledged by the Master In Charge of Ceremonies Hamish McLachlan that there were in fact nine current or past 10 Goalers, seven 8 Goalers and some seven 7 Goalers in attendance.

The evenings presentations were interspersed with staggering performances of skill and strength from The English Gents and Bath Boy, acrobatic performers currently playing at La Clique in Paris. As well as another highly amusing set from Audi Awards regular, Rory Bremner.

Prior to the Julius Baer Victor Ludorum winners being announced, Julius Baer made a tribute to all the professional polo players in the room with a moving video showcasing the highs and lows of the life of a professional player.

The Julius Baer Victor Ludorum winners for 2009 were:
8 Goal: AFB
12 Goal: Apes Hill
15 Goal: Black Bears
18 Goal: Black Bears

Some of the other feature wins on the evening included, Jean Francois Decaux as the Cartier Most Outstanding High Goal Patron, with his team La Bamba de Areco also winning the Polofix Most Outstanding High Goal Team. The Kerry Packer Best High Goal Pony went to Shannon as played by Gonzalito Pieres, Gonzalito also winning the Audi Polo Awards Most Outstanding High Handicapped Player for the second year running. The Audi Most Outstanding British Professional this year going to Luke Tomlinson – a popular winner.

Voting for the 2010 Audi Polo Awards was a combination of on line votes submitted by HPA members as well as votes cast by a voting committee, including former England Captain Andrew Hine; HPA international committee chairman John Tinsley; the Hon Mark Vestey, representing the HPA; Malcolm Borwick, representing the British Association of Professional Polo Players and medium and low-goal player; chief umpire Robert Graham and Jose Donoso, representing high-goal players.

At the conclusion of the evening players and supporters continued celebrations at Windows to the World, looking forward to another safe and successful English Polo Season.
